What happens if you are convicted

If you are convicted of tier 1 sex crimes as an adult or juvenile, you must register with the Delaware State Bureau of Investigation once a year, so the police can keep tabs on you.
If you are convicted of tier 2 or tier 3 sexual assault, the impact is harsher. You will be listed on the Delaware Sex Offender Registry, which is searchable on the Internet. If you are a tier 3 sex offender, the police will knock on doors to advise community members that you live in the area.
Not only do you lose privacy, you may find it difficult to find a new job, keep your old job or find a new place to live if you are convicted.
